Patient J, an elderly man with breathing problems was unfortunate enough to find himself under the “care” of Yeovil District Hospital. This is his story. This dear gentle elderly chap, who never asked for anything from others if he could avoid it, found himself struggling for breath within a ward in YDH.
He rang his bell, which, true to type was ignored, and after twenty minutes of him becoming more and more desperate for assistance, another patient left his bed, and went into the corridor, shouting for help.
He had to be more than persistent to get any member of staff to come and help his “ward mate”, even when he explained the extreme urgency of the matter, which of course he should not have had to do, but if he had not, this charming elderly gent, would not have survived!!!
